Meet the Designer - Lindy Evans

Lindy's love of interior design and architecture began when she was only a child. Instead of playing with her Barbie dolls she would spend all holidays designing and building her dolls the most lavish homes.

Work at her mother's homewares, linen and window furnishing store also fuelled Lindy's passion for beautiful things early in life. "I love design because it’s what I’m so passionate about. I have always been this way. I love creating interior spaces that people just love to be in for many years."

After graduating from her studies in Interior Technology, Lindy gained extensive experience in the residential and commercial market. It's residential interiors however that is her passion and that makes her role at Windemere Interiors the perfect partnership. "My passion is definitely residential design and I absolutely love doing cabinetry design, whether it be a kitchen, built-in furniture or WIR. The projects I enjoy the most would have to be the ones that combine all these design elements."

Since joining Windemere Interiors in 2005, Lindy has completed countless projects and is known for creating unique and stylish interiors that are both artful and functional.

Interview with Lindy

What do you describe as your interior design style?

It’s hard to select just one as I love so many different styles. My home is definitely contemporary with a twist of modern colourful tribal influences. The colours/shades are mainly greys and whites with pops of colour (pink, yellow and green) in art and accessories. My decorating items are a little quirky and off beat. For example, I have used a children’s fabric for the cushions on my sofa (it’s a very luxurious fabric, but still part of a children’s collection)

What is it that you love about interior design in general?

I love design because it’s what I’m so passionate about. I have always been this way. I love creating interior spaces that people just love to be in for many years.

What inspires you?

Being a designer you never switch off, life in general influences the way I create. Being a creative person I take inspiration form life in general. I can be walking down a street or through a park and get inspiration for a particular project.

What is your favourite project?

My passion is residential design. I absolutely love doing cabinetry design, whether it be a kitchen, built-in furniture or WIR. My favourite projects would have to be the ones that combine all these design elements.

Do you have a favourite decorator piece at home and what is the story behind it?

Revol Crinkle Cup
How can I pick just one, that is like asking to pick between your children!! A couple of things I could not live without are my Revol Crinkle Cups (cups that look like plastic disposable cups but in fact are beautiful porcelain.

Another is my Ligne Roset Calin occasional chair with matching ottoman. It looks very minimal in form but is the most comfortable seat you will ever sit in.

Meet the Designer - Carly Gilmore

Surrounded by gorgeous fabrics from her dressmaker grandmother, Carly Gilmore was always destined for a life in design and textiles.

A love of fashion and genuine passion for vintage fabrics and furnishings led to a niche in design and architecture. After completing a Diploma of Interior Design, as an interior designer and property stylist, Carly's unique style blends vintage and special pieces with the contemporary and modern for an eclectic look.

Rather than discard a client’s prized possessions and personal history in favour of trendy pieces, Carly typically reinvents or repurposes things. “I often tell my clients that creating a beautiful home filled and layered with special things takes a lot of time, it’s not something that can be created overnight”.

The challenge is something she enjoys. Whether it's creating a St Tropez inspired bar in Melbourne or a homely interior for a cottage, she draws great satisfaction from creating spaces with meaning. "Interior Design ultimately is about creating a feeling, about memorable spaces. It is the culmination of many things, the material, the colour, the ambience, the light.”

Carly's one tip is to recycle and redesign to add new life while still keeping meaning and personality to a space. "Don't be afraid to mix vintage and contemporary pieces together. It will be a unique and special space."

Meet the Designer - Edam Triffett

Stunning converted warehouses in Amsterdam, loft apartments in New York, terraces in London and beachside holiday houses in Tasmania are just a few of the architectural influences that have inspired designer Edam Triffett’s interiors.

Through his first career as an international flight attendent, Edam used every spare second on overnight stays to soak up the local architecture and interiors. This was in preparation for a move to his other passion in interior design.
Returning to Australia to study in Sydney, Edam has previously worked with Leigh Eliot Interior Design. Since joining the Windemere Interiors team, Edam has designed some stunning interiors, including award winning display homes, apartments and elegant homes.

At the risk of sounding clichéd, Edam describes his personal style as eclectic, “Your home should evolve to reflect your current mood and lifestyle, while still reminding you of where you’ve been and what you’ve achieved,” he said.

Known for his simple and elegant style with a strong focus on practicality and individuality, Edam is in demand for everything from small renovations through to full scale home interiors and magazine styling.

Edam can be contacted at Windemere Interiors on 1300 606 400.

Meet the Designer - Kirstin Fowle

Growing up surrounded by her mother's extensive collection of art, fabrics and antique furniture gave Kirstin Fowle a lifelong passion for interior design.

The enthusiastic appreciation led her to study interior design at Southbank Institute of Technology, as well as colour psychology, feng shui and aspects of soft furnishings.  With a career including visual merchandising and freelance design, Kirstin is now an interior designer at Windemere Interiors, styling new and established properties for a variety of clients.

Kirstin says interior design is so much more than just choosing cushions and curtains, it's about understanding the client's style and designing around their needs and desires for space. While creativity plays the major component of her role, there's also the technical aspects, like creating comrehensive construction drawings and electrical plans.

The mix though is satisfying. "I love that every day is different to the last. Very rarely do I meet two clients who have the same tastes, desires and budgets. It's very satisfying to know that you have helped someone create the utmost potential from their home, whether it's a small renovation or a new build," she says.

With a personal style described as "eclectic", Kirstin loves to complement ultra modern design with vintage and antique elements. "Mixing the old with the new is a sure way to add an unique and stylish factor to any space."

Kirstin can be contacted at Windemere Interiors on 1300 606 400.
